Where AI Actually Belongs

If you are being asked to approve AI spending, ask one question before the money moves.
Where does AI actually belong in the work?
Do not begin by asking where AI can be used. That question is too broad.
Instead, decide whether the work falls into one of four categories:
Repetitive and checkable work. Automate it.
Cognitively demanding work. Assist it.
Skilled judgement. Augment it.
Trust, ethics, relationships, exceptions and accountability. Keep these human.
If the leadership team cannot map the investment clearly against these categories, the decision is not ready.
That does not mean stopping AI. It means pausing long enough to understand what is changing, who owns the risk and where the value will actually come from.
