Malcolm Maxwell

CTO - Chief Bot Whisperer

Malcolm Profile Picture 2_edited.jpg

Malcolm Maxwell leads NakedAI’s AI-first integration and innovation work, bringing more than 35 years of experience in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. His career spans the full evolution of the field, from early academic research to large-scale, real-world deployment.

He earned a degree in Artificial Intelligence in 1993 and has been working at the frontier of applied AI ever since. His early career included contributions to landmark AI-driven projects, including work associated with the development of Grand Theft Auto, reflecting a long-standing engagement with complex, high-impact systems. Throughout his career, Malcolm has focused on designing multi-bot and machine-learning architectures that act as cognitive catalysts—amplifying expert capability and increasing output by five to ten times when applied appropriately.

Much of Malcolm’s work has centred on embedding AI platforms that democratise innovation rather than centralise it, enabling organisations to unlock human potential while transforming operations for efficiency, resilience, and growth. At NakedAI, he is responsible for ensuring that AI initiatives deliver tangible, sovereign R&D value while remaining secure, ethically grounded, and defensible over time.

His leadership background includes senior technology roles across Oil & Gas, FinTech, and Blockchain, where he has overseen enterprise-scale data acquisition, secure AI-driven architectures, and cybersecurity-critical environments. He has served as Chief Operating Officer of a publicly listed company and continues to advise early-stage technology firms on system design, technical risk, and long-term sustainability.

Malcolm is also an early contributor to research into the ethical use of AI in decision-making, including work on weapons technology while at Cranfield in 2008—experience that informs his rigorous approach to accountability and governance today. His earlier career includes distinguished military service as a Weapons Engineering Officer in the Royal Navy, where he earned First Class merit in the Fleet Board examination and a commendation on the Maritime Leadership Course. He later served as a Nuclear Operations Targeting Officer within the UK Ministry of Defence’s TRIDENT programme, working at national level to secure strategic assets with precision.

This combination of deep technical expertise, operational leadership, and national-level responsibility now underpins Malcolm’s role at NakedAI, where judgement, security, and long-term consequences matter as much as technical capability.

Much of Malcolm’s work involves stepping into complex technical environments where decisions have already been made, systems are already in motion, and consequences are difficult to reverse.

He is known for his ability to see how technical choices interact with governance, risk, and accountability over time — not just whether something can be built, but whether it should be built, how it should be structured, and what must remain controllable as systems evolve.

Leaders typically involve Malcolm when clarity is required at the architectural level: where systems must endure scrutiny, integrate safely with existing environments, and remain understandable and governable long after delivery teams have moved on.

What leaders rely on him for

  • Translating intent into durable system architecture

  • Designing boundaries that protect accountability over time

  • Identifying hidden technical risk before it becomes structural

  • Preserving decision integrity through complex delivery environments

Where this matters most

  • High-stakes or irreversible system decisions

  • Regulated or highly scrutinised environments

  • Large, long-lived platforms and infrastructures

  • Situations where technical debt becomes organisational risk
